ABOUT US

We have come to Houston!  Bollywood Shake is now offering classes at various Houston Locations.  We started in Austin and are now branching out around Texas.

At Bollywood Shake, we teach Indian Bollywood Dance for a cultural experience full of fun and excitement.  Our approach includes teaching choreographed routines to popular Indian movie songs.  In addition to learning some cool moves, our classes will also give you a great workout!

Bollywood Shake was started by Ruchika Dias in 2009 because of her passion for dance and teaching.  Ruchika Dias has been trained in Indian classical dance and has choreographed and participated in several performances including Bollywood, hip-hop and Indian classical dances going back to her school days. Ruchika Dias also has an MBA degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

Ruchika was featured on News 8 Austin's "Fit for Friday" show, KEYE/CBS's "We Are Austin" show, University of Texas's "Daily Texan" newspaper, Austin's Community Impact newspaper, "To Do Austin" magazine and Houston's Andhra Mirchi Radio.

We were at the Kid Expo on Saturday and you guys were AMAZING & AWESOME!!!!! My little girl was at the front of the stage just locked into the dances and music. So much so that when the show was over and we walked around some more she was dancing still. Thank you so much for making that day for us so much fun and entertaining. She is currently in dance class at her childcare and loves to dance. We look forward to seeing your groups perform again. - By Gonzalo Cantu

Thanks Khushbu for all the efforts. It feels good to see our kid looking forward to your classes and enjoying herself. - By Mangala

A woman cannot live by salsa dancing alone. So when Groupon offered a 50% discount on a month's worth of Bollywood classes (4 classes) I jumped at the chance. The classes take place at the Galaxy dance studio in south Austin. The studio is bright and airy and the sound system is great. My class was all female and had about 10 people in it. The class instructors were welcoming and friendly and started the class with short warm up, then introduced us to several traditional moves, and then began teaching us a choreographed dance. It's great exercise ('cause your hands are above your heart for almost a full hour and there is a certain amount of jumping involved) and great fun. So much so that I came back (at full price) for a second month and gave lessons as a birthday gift to my best friend. Harippa! - By Lisa, Yelp

I came to know about Bollywood shake though few friends who had already taken prior classes. Ever since, I have been a regular student of Bollywood Shake. I go once a week. I would like to go more often if I get time out of work and mom's duties. Each class is offered for 1 hr. By the end of the class I am panting and sweating. The class is a mixture of different Bollywood dance moves. In the beginning consists of warm up exercise including few Yoga poses. The next 15 minutes consists of Bhangra. Bhangra is a popular north India dance from Punjab with strong, intense movements. Next time slot we learn the dance routine from one of latest Bollywood song. Session ends with a cool down. I learnt Marjani song(from Movie called Billu Barber) in 4 to 6 session class. Ruchika also encouraged me to perform on the stage. She helped me practice for stage performance. After the performance my friends were surprised and said they did not know I could dance so well.I was very proud to hear it. I am thank full that Ruchika has started these classes in the Austin area. There are many studios and many sessions to choose from. The website (http://www.bollywoodsh...) is very informative and updated regularly. Ruchika Dias was my instructor for our 5 pm session at the Tinka's. She and all other instructors are very friendly and very experienced dancers. I have currently signed up for the 16 ( 2 - 8 week session for lesser price). We are learning Dholna(poplular folk dance from India). I love this song and have been wanting to learn since a long time. Khushboo my new instructor is incredible dancer and teaches some of the best moves. Looking forward for my next Sunday class for fun and dancing together with friends. - By Sunita, Google Maps

I found out about Bollywood Shake a few months ago and have been going regularly ever since. It is a great workout just like any other dance fitness class but there are a few things that set Bollywood Shake apart. First, you actually learn dance routines to songs over a 4-8 week session so you feel a sense of accomplishment. Second, the instructors are really good about catering to all levels of experience. They teach the routines on counts first and then to the music, with lots of repetition and coaching to make sure you are getting the steps. I've been to so many dance fitness classes where you're just expected to follow the instructor and pick up on the moves by watching...that can be frustrating for a newbie. Not so, with Bollywood shake, they are great about coaching through the steps. Third, they have a great selection of songs and routines that keep changing every 4-8 weeks so it's long enough to achieve proficiency in a dance routine but short enough to keep things varied and interesting. If you love to dance and are looking for a great way to get in shape this is the class for you! - By Sawashia, Google Maps

I found out about Bollywood Shake from a friend and it was great timing because there happened to be a Groupon at the same time, so I figured I would try 4 weeks and see how it went. I was amazed at how much fun this was and what a great workout it was at the same time! An hour class flew by like that and I sure felt it the next day (mostly in the shoulders because of all the shoulder movements, but in a good way). I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a fun workout (without feeling like you are working out, but reaping the benefits). The class combines warmup, a folk dance called Bhangra (this is killer on the shoulders the first time), and a dance routine, then a cool down. There were people of all body types and dancing abilities in the class (I took it at the Spicewood Springs/Mesa location) - there was even a guy in the class! I usually like aerobics and zumba to get the heart pumping, but this was much better because I could go home and put on a show for the husband after learning the dance routine. In 4 weeks, we learned a dance routine to the Jai Ho song from Slumdog Millionaire. I've signed up for another 8-week session and am looking forward to continue to learn more Bollywood songs and dance routines. It's also great to bring some friends to try with you. There are also classes for kids, but my daughter is not old enough (yet). - By Angela, Google Map

As a challenge for the mind and the body, Bollywood Shake offers the best of both worlds. Traditional Indian dance and Bollywood moves are taught in infinite combinations by the energetic and talented instructor, Ruchika Dias. Ruchika's choreography is innovative and always works up a sweat. Her beginner's classes offer more basic choreography without sacrificing an ounce of the cardiovascular payoff. No previous dance experience is required for you to learn some amazing Bollywood moves--a sampling of salsa, hip-hop, ballroom, classical Indian and more. She offers intermediate and more advanced classes for the dedicated student and dancer following her introductory instruction, as well as one-on-one private instruction. Ruchika also has the best price for Bollywood Dance in town and offers the most diverse range of locations for classes (South, Central, and North)--I know, I've checked! I've taken Ruchika's classes since she first started offering them, and I am a 2-3 times a week devotee. I so look forward to my Bollywood hour, and my fitness level has definitely been kicked up a notch (I lost 8 pounds during her 8 week course and definitely gained muscle definition). Just try it out, once a week, and you will be amazed at the difference you feel in body and mind. Get happy, come to Bollywood Shake! - By Anna, Yelp

Learning Bollywood dance moves at Bollywood shake has been a wonderful experience so far. It's been lot of fun. Ruchika and others who teach the classes make it a fun experience and definitely keep you away from getting bored or feeling self conscious. The class begins with a warm up routine which has couple of different segments. It includes getting a cardio and stretching workout while learning moves for bhangra beats and some plain hip movements to from a style. You feel like you are getting a good workout for your arms and total body. I've been taking dance classes at Bollywood shake for the past few months now. Learned choreography for several new hindi songs and looking forward to learn more. I will definitely recommend Bollywood Shake for people who are interested in learning bollywood dancing. You are getting a workout while learning to dance. Ruchika can also tailor the choreography to your pace or your choice of songs. If you are interested in performing at local cultural functions Ruchika can also help you with the dance costumes and performances. We are planning on performing at one of the upcoming local cultural functions. - By Shirisha, Yahoo Local

Coming to kids classes...i have 10yr old daughter who learns from them..she loves going to Bollywood Shake classes. I did a surprise B-day party for her turned 10 in Dec with Bollywood Shake...and it turned out amazing. It was full 2hr dance party....Ruchika and Jessica entertained all girls and even parents learned some moves and steps. My daughter friends are also learning now. It was a good memory and something different for 10yr old girls. She did Jai Ho workshop for sometime and taught steps for different songs...played musical chairs.
